WALKING IN L.A, THROUGH SOLANO CANYON TOWARD CYPRESS PARK, 5/4

As Drei here continues to explore more walking trails in this great city of ours, my path starts just outside of Chinatown on Broadway and Bishops Rd, through the 110 fwy walkway ( Which for whatever reason, I hardly see anyone walking there), through Solano Canyon, to the Police Academy for breakfast, a Dodger game, back through Solano Canyon and finally toward Riverside and San Fernando Rd.  Here are some pics now on what has been I guess a photoblog of things I've seen along my ventures on foot .   Enjoy...

Wednesday morning, on my way to a 12 noon Dodger game vs the Cubs

110 Fwy Northbound, from Bishop Rd, just before I enter the walkway

The walkway on the 110 fwy heading north against southbound traffic

The view looking toward Downtown.  If I make a mad dash across the fwy, I've got a shortcut to the Dodger game !!!!

OK, the ivy makes this segment of the walkway a little more attractive.  Fitting I should be mentioning ivy because the Dodgers are playing the Cubs on this day.  As many of you baseball fans know, the Cubs home, Wrigley Field, is known for it's ivy that sprouts along it's famed brick outfield walls

At the bottom of Solano Canyon

Solano Canyon's nature

LAPD on Academy Rd, across from the Academy.  Behind, our skyline, and that massive hunk of pavement, known to many of us as the Dodger Stadium parking lot

Allright, time to train with cadets Mahoney and Hightower !!!!

Brunch with L.A's finest

View from atop the Police Academy, about 30 minutes before game time.

Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano, during the National Anthem.  He would pitch 8 strong innings in beating our Boys in Blue 5-1

View from behind home plate

Dodger Right Fielder Jay Gibbons ( Where's Dre ? )  Ethier had a sore shoulder on this day

It's Kerry Wood, former ace of the Cubs

Solano Canyon from the Solano Ave exit

Trying to envision Solano Canyon back in it's day

ALLRIGHT !!!  BACK ON THE WALKWAY, heading north, again facing southbound traffic ( Traffic really is a way of life here in L.A., isn't it ? )

A view of the L.A. River looking south, just past the 3rd of 3 tunnels from downtown on the 110 norhtbound.

Look at that, no traffic !!!

A southbound gold line train

An MTA bus, line 81, heading north toward Eagle Rock Plaza.  This pic is taken from a spiral staircase at the hairpin turn junction of the 5 and 110 freeways  Speaking of that staircase...

Here's a view from the bottom of the staircase, looking onward at the 110/5 hairpin turn.  Here's a flickr link to an old pic of that staircase, taken I'm guessing sometime in the 70's

From the staircase, not only are you up close to the freeway, but you're right on top of both the L.A. River and the tracks that run through

Some of L.A.'s finest artists have also passed through here.  Above this bridge along the fence is the continuation of the walkway along the northbound side of the 110

HEY, THERE'S MY BUS !!!  If  I did not tell you all I was on a walkway, you might think I was taking some of these pics on the left shoulder of the freeway

OK, end of the road.  Of course that MTA bus passes me up again

Wanna see more of my pics ?  Here's the link to the full album.  Where in L.A. will Drei's trail be next ?  And they say Nobody Walks In L.A.

Another set as we're WALKING IN L.A. with D-R-E, this time, Malibu. These pics I took are actually part of my volunteer work with Heal The Bay as I go out to gather data as I observe beach activity going on. The best part, heading out to the beach and taking all these pics. The worst part, not being able to go out in the water on this lovely day !!!! ENJOY EVERYONE !!!
